COURSE DESCRIPTION

This two or three-year program offers the student to learn the science and art of cosmetology. The primary purpose of the cosmetology Course is to train the student in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to achieve competency in job entry-level skills, obtain licensure, and gainful employment in the field of cosmetology or related career fields. The course follows the guidelines established by the Ohio Board of Education and the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. Upon completing and passing the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination, students can become business salon owners, cosmetologists, nail specialists skin care specialists, instructors, platform artists, and color specialists. The program is unique in the area because it allows Sophomores or Juniors to enter the program in their first year. The course is divided into two sections, theory and lab. Students learn theory in a classroom setting with the Milady text and other supplemental materials. Students can display newly learned knowledge and techniques in the newly remodeled salon lab. This course includes lectures, demonstrations, special projects, role-playing interpretation of reading material, writing, and internships at various local salons.

  • Practice effective communications skills, visual poise, and proper grooming.

  • Apply academic and practical learning and related information to ensure sound judgments, decisions, and procedures.

  • Respect the need to deliver worthy service for value received in an employer-employee relationship. 

  • Perform the basic manipulative skills in the areas of hair care, skincare, and nail care. 

  • Perform the basic analytical skills to determine appropriate hair care, skincare, and nail care services to achieve the best total look for each client. 

  • Students are provided the opportunity to learn the science and art of cosmetology

  • Train students in basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to achieve competency in job entry-level skills, obtain licensure, and gainful employment in the field of cosmetology or related career fields.
