Health Services

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

  —  National Association of School Nurses

Student well-being is the responsibility of the staff. All staff members are familiar with emergency procedures such as fire and tornado drills and accident reporting procedures. Should a student be aware of any dangerous situation or accident, s/he must notify any staff person immediately.

The Board of Education has established a policy that every student must have an Emergency Medical Authorization (EMA) form completed and signed by his/her parent to participate in any activity off school grounds. This includes field trips, spectator trips, athletic and other extra-curricular activities, and co-curricular activities.

Our schools make the Emergency Medical Authorization form available to every parent at the time of enrollment through our online registration system known as OneView. This form must be completed in its entirety to include contact information, as it provides important health information for our nurses to care for your child properly while at school. Failure to return the completed form to the school will jeopardize a student’s educational program.

All prescribed and over-the-counter medications are to be delivered to the school clinic by an adult. The school nurse is available to discuss the procedure for medications and treatments. The school nurse will keep these orders on file in the clinic. No medications or medical treatments are to take place in school without the knowledge of the nurse.
